My personal and final jury project which I recently shot at the Azadpur Mandi. It is an amalgamation of elements from the mandi with photography & fashion.
The “Mandi Madness” was my personal and final jury project. I took inspiration from
Xevi Muntane, a Spanish fashion photographer, who did something on the similar lines for Harpers Bazaar Spain Edition in 2013.
A recce to the actual location was vital for deciding the shoot locations and sorting out the logistics.
Azadpur Mandi (New Delhi) is the largest wholesale fruits and vegetables market in Asia. It is known for its large open spaces and the hustle bustle of the vendors.

Azadpur Mandi (New Delhi) is the largest wholesale fruits and vegetables market in Asia. It is known for its large open spaces and the hustle bustle of the vendors.
The main challenges were shooting in 45 degrees of heat, controlling the crowd, dodging the filthy areas of the mandi and
convincing the vendors to take photos in front of their shops.
Aside from the challenges I faced, I don’t regret taking up this unique experience and documenting these pretty faces in a
vegetable market.
In my experience, pre planning played a major role in the entire shoot. A good team of professionals also contributed to the
success of this project.
I learned that in any location, it is possible to take interesting photos, even if it seems that conditions are not perfect and you don’t know what else you can do. Just try again, and be creative.
